<![CDATA[happy new year!]]>Tue, 10 Jan 2017 22:38:33 GMThttp://meltnblend.com/blog/happy-new-yearWell a New Year is upon us and I wanted to take the time to wish all of my friends and family a Happy and Blessed 2017. Rocky and I will being doing a lot less travelling this year, but expect it to be very busy none the less. Our daughter, Kristy, will be having her first baby! YAYYY! This is our fifth grandchild, and we are expecting much spoiling and diaper changing.

I am hoping to do more blogging and posting on FB with new projects and creative ideas. Here are a few photos of things to come, and some travel pics of me and Rocky as we closed out 2016.

Happy New Year! from Terrie's Quilts.
The talented and creative ladies from Tucson Quilt Guild welcomed Rocky and I with open arms. Thanks TQG!

You're never too young to experiment with crayons on fabric using the melt n blend technique, and of course you never out grow being able to play with coloring crayons. Thanks Jill and Reiley!

<![CDATA[MELT-N-BLEND, AWARD WINNING QUILTING TECHNIQUE!]]>Thu, 04 Feb 2016 01:01:28 GMThttp://meltnblend.com/blog/melt-n-blend-award-winning-quilting-techniqueHere is a letter and photographs of a recent quilt that one of my former students completed. She incorporated the melt n blend technique using coloring crayons, and won second place for her original and "tasty" quilt. Way to go Cindy!

"Hi Terrie,
I wanted to share with you pictures of the quilt I made after taking your crayon class in the spring of 2015 when you were in Folsom, CA. I waited this long to send a picture because I wanted to see how the quilt was judged in the Folsom Quilt and Fiber Guild show. Turns out I won second place in the Emma Allesbes Art Quilt Challenge category. This is the first quilt I have ever had judged. I am really pleased. The quilt is 25" wide and 20" high and is called Tom's Beer Can Chicken. The "wall" and "counter" are my background fabrics. All the rest of the elements are the crayon colored applique pieces I made.

Last year the guild announced the quilt challenge for the 2016 show. The quilt was to be related to food and have a 3D element included on the quilt. I knew immediately I wanted to do a quilt of a beer can chicken picture that my husband took years ago. Crayon coloring was perfect for this quilt. The 3D part of the quilt is a recipe for beer can chicken hanging in the upper left corner. I do not consider myself an artist, but you class made this quilt possible. Thank you for your technique. It helped me win my first ribbon."
